DepEd Olongapo schools namely Olongapo City National High School, Regional Science High School III, Gordon Heights National High School, Kalalake Elementary School and SPED-G explored the world of Robotics in the recently concluded 17th Philippine Robotics Olympiad held last August 7-10, 2018 at Fishermall Quezon Ave., Quezon City.
The said schools are the recipient schools of Mayor Rolen Paulino’s Robotics Project for the Schools Division of Olongapo City to prepare today’s students to be the best version of themselves in the future by equipping them with the right tool and walk them through the process to enhance their computer programming skills and creative thinking while having fun learning. The said Project is only now on its 2nd year that open the doors for these schools to compete in National Contest like this.
PRO was divided into four events namely, Elementary Regular Category: Reduce Food Waste, Junior High School Regular Category: Precision Farming, Senior High School Regular Category: Food Distribution, and Robot Soccer, under this year’s theme: “Food Matters.”
Two students from Regional Science High School-III bagged the 6th place out of 83 contestants and 14th place in the Junior High School out of 33 entries. The finalists for each categories received medals and certificates of participation.
PRO aims to discover and nourish our youth’s potential when it comes to designing, building, and programming working robots, and help them to achieve their dreams of becoming our country’s future inventors, architects, and engineers.
The contestants used LEGO Robotics kits as a medium in creating their own robotic inventions which will fit their respective categories.
