In a remarkable display of community spirit and collaboration, the Schools Division Office of Olongapo successfully conducted Brigada Eskwela from August 14 to 19, 2023. This annual event brought together 40 schools and numerous volunteers who dedicated their time and effort to prepare schools for the upcoming academic year.
Brigada Eskwela is a nationwide initiative in the Philippines that aims to prepare public schools for the opening of classes. It is a collective effort involving school officials, teachers, parents, students, local government units, and various stakeholders. The event focuses on cleaning, repairing, repainting and beautifying school facilities to create a conducive learning environment.
This year, the Schools Division Office of Olongapo witnessed an unprecedented level of enthusiasm and participation from the community. Volunteers from different walks of life came together to make this event a resounding success. Their dedication was truly remarkable, as they worked tirelessly to ensure that the schools were ready to welcome students.
Dr. Imelda P. Macaspac, the Division Superintendent of Olongapo, expressed her gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of Brigada Eskwela. The activities during Brigada Eskwela included cleaning classrooms, repairing facilities, painting walls, landscaping school grounds, free body massaging and hair treatment for school personnel and volunteers. These efforts not only improve the physical infrastructure of the schools but also strengthen the sense of community and partnership among stakeholders.
Congressman Jay Khonghun, proudly graced the Brigada Eskwela Kick-off, mentioned that he is working hard to support the Department of Education and be able to provide the 300M appropriation for DepEd PPA’s. On the other hand, Vice Mayor Jong Cortez, who actively participated in the event, remarked, “Our city is proud to be part of Brigada Eskwela, as education is a top priority for us. This event not only enhances the physical appearance of our schools but also sends a powerful message to our children about the value we place on their education.”
