SDO Olongapo City Shines at 2023 World Robotics Olympiad Friendship Invitational in Denmark

In an impressive showcase of innovation and talent, the Special Education Program for the Gifted in the Futures Innovators Elementary Division, representing the Philippine National Robotics team, secured bronze medals at the 2023 World Robotics Olympiad Friendship Invitational tournament in Odense, Denmark. The event, which took place from September 21 to 24, witnessed the remarkable performance of Sabina C. Lim and Gevenyl A. Canlas, both grade 6 learners, who achieved a score of 149.50, earning them a spot on the podium.

Among the notable participants were Nellie E. Brown Elementary School, represented by siblings Christopher Joseph and Aira Basa, who secured the 38th position in the RoboMission Elementary Division. Meanwhile, Columban College Barretto Inc. finished 20th in the RoboMission Senior Division. The event, which drew nearly 1,200 participants from 39 different countries, underscored the global enthusiasm for robotics.

This outstanding achievement highlights SDO Olongapo City’s prowess in the field of robotics. The guidance and support of OIC Schools Division Superintendent Madam Imelda Macaspac and Assistant Schools Division Superintendent Madam Maylene M. Minimo, EdD, played a crucial role in this success. It also reflects the collaborative efforts of the schools, parents of the delegates, and private establishments such as A+ Solutions, led by Ms. Aileen Viacrusis, and OneAd, owned by Sir Patrick Escusa, who provided essential support and assistance to the delegates.

The Philippine Robotics Team was headed by Ms Mylene Abiva – CEO & President of FELTA Multi-Media Inc and  from PRT – SDO Olongapo City consisted of Ms. Yvette Roque, Education Program Supervisor in Science and Division Robotics Focal Person; Sir Abdon C. Bayla, EdD, the School Principal; Sir Lester John Perez, coach, all from the Special Education Program for the Gifted; Sir Arjay Battad, coach from Nellie Brown Elementary School; and Ms. Jennifer Abille, coach from Columban College Inc. The supportive parents, Mr. & Mrs.  Frederick and Sylvia Lim, Ms. Dejilyn Alianza along with Mr. Jay-R Basa, also played a pivotal role in the team’s journey.

The delegates extend their heartfelt gratitude to their school community, City Mayor Rolen Paulino Jr, and 1st District Congressman Jefferson Jay Khonghun for their unwavering support and assistance throughout the competition.
