by: ROWENA D. ARDINA

Bangal Integrated School sparked the love for reading among its students during the month-long celebration of National Reading Month, spearheaded by the dedicated Reading Coordinator, Ms. Rowena Ardina, and under the adept supervision of Mr. Cenon G. Cayabyab, Jr. The school embarked on a series of engaging activities throughout November 2023 to foster a deeper appreciation for literature among its learners.

The festivities commenced on November 6 with an invigorating kick-off program, featuring a captivating storytelling session led by the competent Mr. Gilbert Valenzuela. Joining him were other competent storytellers, Mr. Jerry O. Alegre from Amelia Heights ES, and Dr. Danilo M. dela Rosa, the OIC-Assistant Principal. Their enthralling narratives set the tone for an exciting month ahead, inspiring students to delve into the world of books.

The school embraced a multifaceted approach to encourage reading among its students. Classroom-based activities were organized, catering to different age groups and interests. From the whimsical “wear what you read” day to the intellectually stimulating spelling bee competition, the school ensured a diverse range of activities to cater to varying preferences. For the younger learners, engaging activities like coloring sessions were organized, while older students showcased their creativity through poster-making centered on the theme Pagbasa: Pag-asa para sa Matatag na Kinabukasan.

The pinnacle of the celebration was the culminating activity on November 29, which featured the “vocabulary paREAD/costume” event. This unique and creative affair allowed students to artistically express their favorite book characters through costumes, showcasing their imaginative flair. Recognition was bestowed upon pupils who stood out for their creativity and dedication, acknowledging their exemplary efforts in bringing literary characters to life. Moreover, commendation was extended to all participants for their enthusiastic involvement in making the event a resounding success.

The National Reading Month celebration at Bangal Integrated School not only fostered a love for reading but also instilled a sense of creativity and camaraderie among its students. Ms. Rowena Ardina, Mr. Cenon G. Cayabyab, Jr., and the entire school faculty demonstrated an unwavering commitment to promoting literacy and nurturing a lifelong passion for reading among the learners, ensuring a memorable and enriching experience for all involved.
