Bataan Peninsula State University (BPSU) – Main Campus and DepEd Olongapo City Establish a Groundbreaking Partnership to Elevate Guidance and Counseling Services in Schools

In a significant stride towards enriching the field of guidance and counseling, the Bataan Peninsula State University (BPSU) – Main Campus and the Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division Office of Olongapo City have signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for a Community Extension Program. This innovative collaboration aims to provide invaluable learning opportunities for students pursuing the Master of Arts in Counseling Practicum at BPSU.

The MOA signing ceremony, held at the BPSU Main Campus on April 16, 2024, was graced by Dr. Imelda P. Macaspac, the Officer-in-Charge Schools Division Superintendent of DepEd Olongapo City, Dr. Ruby B. Santos-Matibag, the University President, Dr. Ariel A. Bongco, Dean of the Graduate School at BPSU, and other SDO Officials.

The agreement outlines a symbiotic relationship wherein DepEd Olongapo City will accommodate on-the-job training (OJT) students enrolled in the Master of Arts in Counseling Practicum program at BPSU. These students will be placed in forty schools within the Olongapo City division, exposing them to real-world scenarios and enriching their learning experiences.

Within the scope of this collaboration, BPSU commits to offering innovative programs classified as Community Extension Program for Guidance and Counseling, along with related services. This initiative is poised to not only benefit the students directly involved but also contribute to the enhancement of counseling services within the community.

Dr. Imelda P. Macaspac, expressed her enthusiasm about the partnership, she even remarked that these efforts strengthen the counseling services provided within the schools. By providing students with hands-on experience that is not only shaping future counselors but also enriching the support systems available to the students.”

Dr. Ariel A. Bongco, highlighted the transformative potential of such partnerships in academia. He said that collaboration shows commitment to bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application. By working hand in hand with DepEd Olongapo City, this will create avenues for the students to thrive and contribute meaningfully to society.”

Dr. Ruby B. Santos-Matibag, stating the collaborative spirit of both institutions, emphasized the long-term impact of such initiatives. This MOA signifies dedication to fostering meaningful connections within BPSU and DepEd Olongapo City.

The signing of this MOA is a sign of cooperation between BPSU and DepEd Olongapo City, highlighting their shared commitment and counseling services for the betterment of Schools in Deped Olongapo City. As students embark on their practicum journey, they do so with the knowledge that they are part of a larger movement towards excellence in guidance and counseling.
