Bacarra National Comprehensive High School played host to the spirited delegates of CLRAA Patriots, a gathering brimming with promise and determination. The occasion marked the Cluster 1 Pre-National Qualifying Meet, a significant event held in Laoag, Ilocos Norte from June 17 to 21, 2023. As the representatives of their schools and regions, the athletes were met with open arms by both local and school officials as Vice Governor Cecilia Araneta, an esteemed figure, extended her personal welcome during the inaugural ceremony. Her words resonated with encouragement and support, setting the tone for the days ahead.
A Solidarity meeting ensued at the impressive Ilocos Norte Centennial Arena, where a confluence of key figures congregated. Regional Sports Officers, Tournament Managers, Technical Officials, Event Coordinators, and the diligent Medical Team united to strategize for the smooth unfolding of the games. Their collective efforts were geared toward ensuring that the upcoming events would transpire seamlessly.
During the opening program, Ilocos Norte Governor Hon. Matthew Marcos Manotoc and Hon. Ferdinand Alexander Marcos, Congressman of the 1st District of Ilocos Norte graced this significant event. Both dignitaries welcomed the delegates with genuine warmth, pledging their commitment to the safety and well-being of all athletes and officials in attendance.
Among the participants, Kalalake National High School’s 3×3 Basketball Secondary Girls stood out as the sole representatives from Olongapo City. In a dynamic lineup comprising Sophia Bianca Valencia, Guianna Fergie Sibal, Kristine Mae Domingo, and Lewis Amiel Magno, guided by the adept coaching of Butch Atiz and under the watchful eye of Chaperone Francene Abay, the team embraced the challenges that lay ahead.
Despite facing an initial setback in their first game, the team’s indomitable spirit shone through. Their resilience propelled them to rise above adversity, ultimately etching history for Olongapo City. This landmark achievement marked the first time a Basketball team from the city earned a spot in the prestigious Palarong Pambansa Event.
A notable highlight within the ranks was Sophia Bianca Valencia, who emerged as the beacon of excellence. Recognized for her outstanding contributions, she was honored with the title of Most Valuable Player for Basketball 3×3 Secondary Girls, a testament to her exceptional skills and dedication.
As the Pre-National Qualifying Meet drew to a close, the echoes of unity, determination, and triumph lingered, leaving an indelible mark on all who participated and bore witness to this remarkable chapter in the realm of sports.
