In line with the mandate of Republic Act 10121, also known as the “Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010,” the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) has organized a significant event aimed at fostering disaster preparedness among the youth. The Division Batang Empowered and Resilient Team (BERT) First Aid and Fire Olympics Spearheaded by Erwin Castillejo, SDO Project Development Officer II/DRRMFP in cooperation with PSUPT Roderick Dj Marquez City Fire Marshall, FO3 Justin John G Felarca RN, Jonathan Fredeluces City DRRM Officer, Eden Condeno PRC, Ar-Jay Jimeno PRC, Other members of the BFP, and the medical team of OCNHS is set to take place in Olongapo City on March 22, 2024.

The Office of Civil Defense’s mandate to fortify the nation’s disaster resilience found expression in this event, fostering a culture of proactive disaster management within the educational system. Pursuant to DepEd Order No. 55, this emphasizes the importance of integrating DRRM into the school curriculum, the BERT Olympics marked a significant milestone in the empowerment of young minds to mitigate risks and respond effectively to emergencies.

The event was conducted at the Olongapo City National High School Quadrangle, brought together teams of BERT members and School DRRM Coordinators from various schools. The objectives were clear: promote camaraderie, refresh first aid and firefighting skills, and ensure the implementation of concrete processes and procedures.

Participants engaged in a series of competitions geared to their expertise. The First Aid Olympics, and the Fire Olympics attended by Elementary, Junior and Senior High School BERT teams, provided a platform for showcasing proficiency in essential life-saving techniques and tested their aptitude in handling fire-related emergencies.

The competition was intense with each team demonstrating unique but commendable skills. After intense rounds of assessment, the following schools are categorized as winners:
