BOTOLAN, ZAMBALES— In a collective effort to combat climate change and honor the dedication of public servants, the Schools Division Office (SDO) of Olongapo City, led by Assistant Schools Division Superintendent William Roderick Fallorin, and DepEd Olongapo City Non-Teaching Personnel participated in a nationwide tree-growing initiative on September 20, 2024, at Sitio Alao, San Juan, Botolan, Zambales. This event, organized in celebration of the 124th Philippine Civil Service Anniversary (PCSA), was spearheaded by the Civil Service Commission (CSC) Field Office-Zambales in partnership with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Zambales.

The tree-planting drive, titled Tree Growing for a Cause, with the theme: Malasakit sa Kalikasan, Malasakit sa Lingkod bayan. aligns with the PCSA’s mission of celebrating public service excellence while promoting environmental sustainability. As the participants gathered, a sense of unity was felt, driven by the shared purpose of planting trees to help mitigate the effects of climate change and improve ecological conditions in the region.

This nationwide tree-growing activity not only promotes environmental conservation but also serves as a tribute to those who dedicated their lives in service, instilling patriotism in the process.

The initiative also raised funds to support the families of fallen civil servants, making the event even more meaningful for all those involved.

The collaboration between SDO Olongapo, CSC-Zambales, and DENR emphasized the importance of cooperation between public institutions in addressing pressing global issues. The Department of Education (DepEd) Olongapo’s active participation in the event highlights the department’s commitment to shaping a better future for the next generation, not only through education but also through environmental stewardship.

The trees planted at Sitio Alao will serve as a legacy of this endeavor, offering future generations cleaner air and a greener planet.

As the Philippines continues to face the realities of climate change, initiatives like the PCSA tree-growing drive play a vital role in fostering environmental responsibility and ensuring a sustainable future for all.
