Baguio City, June 29, 2024 — The Division Office of Olongapo City conducted a comprehensive Gender and Development (GAD) training from June 26 to 28, 2024, at the Azalea Hotel in Baguio City. The event, spearheaded by OIC-Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Imelda P. Macaspac and facilitated by Ma’am Haidee Ibasco and its Technical Working Group, was attended by 118 personnel from the Division Office, marking a significant step towards fostering inclusivity and gender sensitivity within the educational sector.
The three-day training aimed to enhance the understanding and implementation of GAD principles among the participants. Through various interactive activities and informative sessions, the event sought to promote a culture of equality and mutual respect regardless of gender.
Among the highlights of the training were the engaging anagram puzzle game and the Human Bingo activity. These ice-breaker games encouraged all personnel to interact and get to know each other better, breaking down barriers and fostering a spirit of camaraderie and inclusiveness. The Human Bingo activity was effective in creating a fun and open environment where participants could learn interesting facts about one another, transcending gender distinctions.
A heartrending moment of the training was the tribute to two retired personnel, Ma’am Josefina Macapagal, Public School District Supervisor, and Ma’am Edwina Espiritu, Education Program Supervisor. Both were given the opportunity to share their most memorable experiences with the Department of Education. Their heartfelt speeches reflected their deep commitment and years of dedicated service to the educational community, leaving a lasting impact on their colleagues and the institution.
Dr. Imelda P. Macaspac emphasized the importance of GAD in her opening remarks, stating, “Our goal is to create an environment where every individual, regardless of gender, feels valued and respected. This training is a crucial step in that direction, equipping our personnel with the knowledge and skills to advocate for gender equality and inclusiveness in their respective roles.”
Ma’am Heidee Ibasco also highlighted the significance of the training, noting that such initiatives are essential in promoting a progressive and inclusive work environment within the educational sector.
Assistant Schools Division Superintendent emphasized the significance of maintaining a workplace culture that embraces all colleagues, fostering joy and enthusiasm. “It is vital that we carry forward a culture that celebrates diversity and inclusivity, where every individual feels valued and respected. This culture not only enhances our professional environment but also drives us to achieve greater collective success,” he remarked.
The GAD training concluded with a renewed commitment from all participants to uphold and integrate gender-sensitive practices in their daily operations and interactions. The event not only provided valuable insights and skills but also strengthened the bonds among the Division Office personnel, reinforcing a collective resolve to support and implement GAD initiatives.
The Division Office of Olongapo City is committed to promoting gender equality and development, and this training is a major step forward in their mission to create a welcoming and fair learning environment for all.
