The Schools Division of Olongapo City commemorated the 2023 City Fiesta and the 5th Ulo ng Apo Festival in a vibrant celebration that paid tribute to local culture and heritage on December 30, 2023.
Festivities were infused with both traditional and modern elements, showcasing the city’s rich diversity. The event culminated with a significant wreath-laying ceremony in honor of Dr. Jose Rizal, marking his enduring legacy and contributions to Philippine history.
Various schools under the Schools Division of Olongapo City participated wholeheartedly in the festivities. Students showcased their talents through colorful performances, cultural presentations, and artistic displays through the different competitions and presentations held during the City Grand Parade such as the Citizen’s Army Training presentations, drum and lyre exhibitions and Dulansangan Competition. The vibrant energy of the youth resonated throughout the event, highlighting their enthusiasm for preserving local traditions while embracing innovation.
A solemn wreath-laying ceremony was held at the city’s Rizal Triangle Park, attended by school officials, educators, and students. The ceremony paid homage to Rizal’s dedication to education, patriotism, and social reform, emphasizing the importance of his teachings in today’s society.
Dr. Imelda P. Macaspac, SDO Olongapo City Schools Division Superintendent expressed the significance of participating in events that honor the city’s heritage and national hero. She emphasized the role of education in fostering a deep appreciation for history and culture among the youth, stating, “We should show our support to the Olongapo City events as how our City Mayor Rolen C. Paulino, Jr. supports the activities and programs of SDO Olongapo City.”
The City Fiesta celebration served as a reminder of the unity and diversity that define Olongapo City. Through the active participation of schools and the community, the event encapsulated the spirit of camaraderie and reverence for the city’s cultural legacy. The Schools Division of Olongapo City reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing the next generation, guiding them to become responsible and culturally aware citizens.
