OLONGAPO CITY, November 5, 2026 — The Department of Education (DepEd)–Schools Division Office (SDO) of Olongapo City participated in the Fourth Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED), reinforcing its commitment to disaster preparedness and the safety of its personnel.

Led by Mr. Erwin A. Castillejo, Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Coordinator, the activity provided personnel with an opportunity to practice the office’s earthquake response procedures and strengthen their readiness during emergencies.

Personnel simultaneously performed the “Duck, Cover, and Hold” procedure, a protective action intended to reduce the risk of injury from falling objects during an earthquake. The exercise emphasized the importance of responding promptly, remaining calm, and following safety instructions.

Following the simulated earthquake, employees proceeded with an orderly evacuation to the designated safe area in accordance with the office’s established emergency response protocols. This phase of the drill reinforced personnel’s familiarity with evacuation procedures and the importance of coordinated movement when leaving the workplace during an emergency.
Participation in the NSED forms part of continuing efforts to build disaster awareness and preparedness in government offices. Regular drills provide opportunities for employees to put safety procedures into practice, recognize their responsibilities during emergencies, and develop the discipline necessary for an organized response.
Through its participation in the quarterly drill, SDO Olongapo City confirmed the importance of making disaster preparedness a regular workplace practice, with every employee contributing to the safety and readiness of the organization.
