TOKYO, Japan — Eleven selected students from Regional Science High School III (RSHS III) under SDO Olongapo City and one student from Little Angel Study Center participated in a six-day Cultural and Academic Exchange Program at Tokyo Metropolitan Takashima High School from September 7 to 12, 2026. Accompanied by two RSHS III personnel, two SDO personnel, and three representatives from the local mayor’s office, the students engaged in activities that fostered cultural understanding and friendship between Filipino and Japanese youth.

The program brought learning beyond the classroom, giving the Olongapo delegation opportunities to experience Japanese school life, traditions, and culture while sharing their Filipino heritage.
A key activity was Class Immersion Day, during which the Filipino students joined their Japanese counterparts in the classroom. They introduced traditional Filipino games, food, songs, and Tagalog words, encouraging interaction through cultural sharing and group activities.

Cultural presentations also highlighted Philippine music, arts, traditions, values, and everyday life. These exchanges allowed students from both countries to explore their differences and discover shared interests.
The program provided opportunities for participants to use English in an international setting, helping them develop communication skills, confidence, cooperation, and adaptability. Through conversations and shared activities, students practiced listening to others and respecting different perspectives.

On September 11, the Olongapo City delegation took part in the Takashima School Festival, known in Japan as Bunkasai. The student-led event featured classroom booths, cultural exhibits, performances, and other creative activities.

The festival gave the visiting students a closer look at Japanese school culture and the teamwork, creativity, and responsibility involved in organizing activities for the school community.

Throughout the exchange, education and cultural sharing served as opportunities to build connections across languages and national borders. For the Olongapo students, the visit was a chance to broaden their understanding of the world while representing their community and sharing the talent, warmth, and cultural pride of Filipino youth.
