OLONGAPO CITY — May 4, 2026. A significant step toward modernizing education was marked with the official launch of the NextGen Smart Classroom, a project aimed at strengthening digital literacy among students.
The event took place at the Olongapo City Civic Center, highlighted by a blessing and ribbon-cutting ceremony, along with the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to formalize the project’s implementation. The initiative is designed to bring advanced technology directly into classrooms, enhancing both teaching and learning experiences.

The program opened with a blessing led by Rev. Fr. Orlando B. Correa, parish priest of the Diocesan Shrine of St. Mary Magdalene Parish of San Lorenzo.

The project supports the Department of Education’s Revised K–12 Curriculum, which emphasizes the integration of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in education to develop 21st-century skills among learners.
Assistant Schools Division Superintendent Ilynne S. Samonte emphasized the importance of the initiative in shaping students’ knowledge and competencies. This was followed by Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Imelda P. Macaspac, who shared her vision of a more modern and inclusive education system.

Jet Renz R. Ferrer, Officer-in-Charge Education Program Supervisor for ICT, outlined the goals and benefits of the smart classroom, noting its advantages for both teachers and students.

The Olongapo City Government, led by Mayor Rolen C. Paulino Jr., expressed full support for the initiative, along with the Department of Education Region III represented by Assistant Regional Director Jessie L. Amin CES IV. Both emphasized the importance of collaboration in improving the quality of education in the digital age.

One of the most meaningful moments of the event was the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement between Dr. Macaspac and Mayor Paulino—a symbol of unity and shared responsibility in shaping the future of education in the city.

In her closing remarks, Eleonor C. Cayabyab, Chief of the Curriculum Implementation Division, encouraged continued support for educational initiatives that promote innovation and inclusivity.

Following the formal program, participants were given a Smart Classroom Tour showcasing modern technological equipment—demonstrating a concrete step toward future-ready education.

In the end, the NextGen Smart Classroom is more than just a new facility. It represents hope, opportunity, and a promise—that every Olongapeño learner will be better prepared to face the challenges of tomorrow.
